how much walking are you willing to do? And are you talking about a full day? How many hours will you be there?
and where are you starting out from? i.e. train station, hotel location ....

Visit the Colosseum definitely and the famous fountain (i can't remember what it's called).

Ah, it's the Trevi Fountain (or Fontana di Trevi). St Peters Basilica is also amazing and The Forum Romanum is also worth seeing.

if you have been travelling round italy then you will probably have had enough of painted ceilings etc so for me its the colosseum (?) and trevi fountain

use the metro - cheap, cheerful and easy enough to use !

Also try the pizza they sell on the street stalls - yum!

i agree with sammd, travi fountain and St Peters. Spanish steps too!!

Have a great time, i was there for 4 days and loved every minute of it.

One day, and one day only? Colosseum early in the morning, taxi to St Peters, Vatican museum, finishing in the Sistene Chapel, over to the Spanish Steps for dinner, wander back to your hotel for a nighcap and to plan when you can return.

Chuck three coins into the (Trevi) fountain.
Before the pickpockets nick your cash..... Great suggestions, Trevi definately, Just be careful of your belongings
