My daughter's passport runs out on 29 July - we might be able to go on holiday before then (looking like either Corfu or Tenerife - cost is a major factor). Obviously her passport must still be in date for the return flight but does it have to have any extra time on it? Thanks

<<why take a chance ?>>

and precisely what would that chance be??
"Also I believe children's passports are valid for 5 years only, a pal found that out as she tried to take them to Oz on holiday."

yes the 5 years for children's passports is true BUT there would have been an expiry date on them so your friend was the one at fault, no one else

what chance precisely would the op be taking anyway?
ah, sorry dzug, hadn't seen yr reply on 'page 2'
I'm slightly curious Dee sa as to how your friend only found out when she tried to take her children to Oz that the passport was only valid for 5 years - did it not state the expiry date on the passport when she received it originally?
My husband had to get a new passport promptly (he had to pay for the one day service) as he was visiting Malaysia on a business trip and needed at least 6 months left on his passport. I think there's a few countries that do, and not necessarily 'obscure' ones!
beverleymot is wrong about the 9.5 years figure.
