Following on from Jezas question, a lot of replies stated they could take anything except eyes, I have always said this but never been able to explain why I don't want my eyes taken and used. Why don't you want your eyes taken (if you don't that is)?

I decided years ago that I actually wanted to donate my eyes after death and asked if I could have a form to register my wishes. I got sent the wrong form and did not get back to them. I thought it would be nice if I could help someone to see after my death. None of our tissues will be much used to us in a box in the ground where they will all rot away. Why not someone else make use of them?
I think eyes are more personal somehow. They are a big part of your identity and very individual. My friends were in this position last year when their mother died. They donated everything except her eyes because they said "her eyes were her!"
I particularly want my perfect eyesight to benefit another and as they are green, theyre my best feature
I just looked on the internet and apparently you can take the eyes (needed for corneal grafts) up to 72 hours after death. Like you tamborine I would like someone to benefit from any bits that are good enough to use, once I have no more need of them.
I can't rationally explain why I don't want to donate my eyes. They can have everything else if it's of any use.

Maybe I don't want the recipient to suffer short-sighteness and conjunctivits.
They can have any bits of me they can find a use for, which may not be much by the time I've finished with them. I can't say I understand the eye thing after all they'll be as much use to you as your heart or liver when you're dead. I know I would be eternally grateful to anyone who gave me the chance of life or sight after their death so I would do the same without a second thought.
my hubby went blind long before he died, his blindness was caused by diabetes so a donor would not have helped, loosing your sight is the most cruel thing that can happen to anyone, I would definitely donate my eyes, they are the most precious things you have.

If anything of mine is still usable when I no longer need it, that's fine by me!
I'm undecided about my eyes, I think it's to do with the saying "The eyes are the windows to the soul".........
