Prince Philip visiting the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, in Cambridge, was introduced to a Polish research scientist and greeted him with "Did you come here to pick raspberries?"

He's a lad isn't he ! As Max Miller used to say of himself "When I'm gone there'll never be another !"

Is the remark racist?

Prince Philip came here as a hanger on and a leach
redmanvan - so a man who came to Britain and served with distinction in the Navy, was involved in several WW2 skirmishes and was mentioned in dispatches is a hanger on. That's a bit rich........

As to the "leaching", I didn't know that he had seeped away out of Buck Pal or Windsor Castle.........?

presumably the riposte was "yes Phil, how's the kebab shop going?"
'' phil the greek ''
I like the old duffer and think he's great for his age.
Isn't it just old people in general we roll our eyes at whenever they're just a bit rude?
He's hardly been a hanger on, he's done his bit and he's supported Mrs Queen stoically through hell and high water.
...when not in attendance on other "friends".
I've always liked the guy, since I met him many years ago when he visited the pit I was at as a very young apprentice. I was among a group who were introduced to him at the shaft side. What really impressed me was while we where stood there a shift of men came out of the pit. As they went by Phil stepped forward and said something along the lines of "Petty Officer ***** a moment of your time please" turned out the guy had served on the same ship, they spent about 10 minutes chatting then off they went. All in all he came over as a genuine sort.

along with slitty eyes in Peking ?

To the Pole he could have referred to how bravely they fought on the Allied side in the 2WW. He would have personal experience of that.

What if the Pole had answered: that awful fourth child of yours: is it true he married a dyke or

Did you ever think of divorcing your wife: a bit difficult for you altho your children have been showing the way - some more than once
I don't have much time for the royal family in general. I like Harry, the Queen and Prince Philip. The rest seem to be a financial burden on our country.
