Just read that BT Line Rental is going up to almost £16 per month from end January. If i decide to change my phone provider, how to I go about getting new Broadband as I am with BT. is it easy and can I still use my BT email? Who would you recommend for a good company for line rental/broadband? I might just keep my mobile for calls, can I use my mobile for 0800 / 0845 calls?

a mobile can phone the same numbers as a land line !
Most mobile service providers charge you for 0800 numbers and often other non-geographical numbers are more expensive on a mobile and excluded from 'free' minutes.

You will not be able to keep your BT email address if you switch to another provider, but that is not really a big deal.

Unless you are in a Virgin cable area you will need a BT landline for your broadband whichever provider you move to. Other providers may be cheaper. So, if you move to Talk Talk they will 'take over' your BT line and you will pay your bills to them and you will not be able to access your BT mailbox. You will still need a landline.

If you are in a Virgin cable area you can get broadband without a telephone line from BT or Virgin. That is what I do and use a mobile phone and Skype for phone calls.
How much do you want to pay.....................I'm with BT and pay £32.50 per month for line rental, broadband, and all my calls, excepting to mobiles and internationals.
I'll bet if you ring BT they'll offer you a more competitive package.
craft1948 has it exactly ! I have had a BT line for 34 years, and I am also an ex-BT Engineer. When I phoned up this summer to ask why I was paying over £50 for line rental, unlimited calls (up to one hour) and broadband, they immediately halved that monthly bill to £25, incl VAT.

And I didn't have to kick up a fuss one little bit. I just wish I had done it a couple of years ago.

It pays to complain you know !

Its worth remembering that even if you are going to get everything from another telecoms company, you will almost certainly have to rent a line from BT. Talk talk, eg, provide NOTHING...ie everything still comes from good old BT, including the engineer who comes along to connect you up to Talk Talk.

Craft and mikey, I agree. I really don't want the hassle of changing. I will give them a ring. Thanks ! I think I am paying about £25 for line rental and broadband plus VAT monthly at the moment, with free evening and weekend calls.
I do not have BT broadband and have not for many years now. but I have kept my e mall address and still use it, I do pay approx £1.50 per month for the privilege. Check out giffgaff for mobiles, for £12 per month I get 250 free minutes per month, free text and free data. It's run on the O2 system and up till now I have had no problems .

Rang BT today, paid £120 upfront for a year's line rental and saved myself £56.00. Also got my Broadband down to just over £10 per month . Worth a phone call ! The man said I have to make two calls per month with this deal (I usually dial out on my mobile) , they can be made in the evening when it's free. Also free evening and weekend calls. So saved a fair amount.
