Sorry missed h off flight.
Well, if you don't fancy the Gibside, how about Edinburgh...?
The point about traveling on Eurostar, Mark, is that it's part[i of the holiday, not just a [i]precursor] to it. Being waited on by staff who keep topping up your glass of (good quality) Champagne, while tucking into a surprisingly good meal (and ring to find space for the excellent other wines) is a great way of relaxing. (I never want to get off!)

Have been to Edinburgh, was fantastic, stayed in the Waively Hotel maybe not spelt right,But was fantastic.Said to OH we should go there,I think he would really enjoy it.I went in december for my mams 70th,ice rink was there,German market etc. It was an amazing time.I did not see everything I wanted to.Yes this could be a possibility.
Another possibility:
Could you manage a Thursday-to-Sunday long weekend (because of restrictions on when there are flights)? If so, you could try Prague (which everyone seems to rave about). Based upon flying out at 0730 on Thurs 9th August (arriving 1045) and coming back at 1645 on Sunday (arriving at 1800) Jet2 will fly you there and back for a total (for two people) of £224.96.

or, for a Friday to Monday break, Jet2 will take you to Krakow (which, I'm told, is stunning) for £229.96. [Out at 1450, arriving 1825. Back at 1900, arriving 2035].

My sister went to Prague for her 30th anniversary, she said it was fantastic.Have thought about going there aswell.Thankyou Buenchico.
I stated in "grand hotel" krakow... V posh and central- my friend got married there and it was phenomenal xxx
How do Freda.

I've just had a lovely break in a "restaurant with rooms" called The Black Swan at Oldstead. Don't know if it would be too far for you to travel (North Yorkshire) but if you like fine dining, you'll love it. A real "picture on a plate" place.

It is expensive but worth it for a special occasion, like your big 50. The rooms (only four of them) are all lovely and there's a double-ended bath in the bathroom, so you and your fella can have a nice soak together.

Each room has its own little patio, so you can sit out with your wine, watching the birds flitting about. Fabulous.
