T.V. Licence

What happens if you dont have a T.V. licence, I heard that they dont really have any reall power to do anything, is this true?

I have to accept though that there seems to be little evidence that many (if any) warrants are actually obtained on these, or any other, grounds. See here:

TV detector vans do travel round the country, They are just an empty van driving round trying to scare single females into buying a licence.

Photographs of the inside of these vans have been published on the internet

NO person has been proscecuted in a court of law with evidence from a detector van ? Why is this ?

Is eddie suggesting we don't pay and follow his suggested approach even if we do watch TV?
I can't see why RebelSouls has such a grievance with the BBC. I read that
5% of the households in the UK don't have a TV licence- that's roughly 1 million households. Sorry RebelSouls, I just cannot believe that gangs of 'BBC/Crapita thugs' are harrassing anything like a million families, banging on doors, peering through windows and making their lives a misery as you described in this and other postings.

I have never owned a TV (been married since 1964) thus I have no TV licence. For the first 30 yrs. or so of our marriage we occasionally received letters from the licence people that were very polite, and written along the lines of "we understand that you have no TV set. If that is still the case, please tick the box below and send this form back to us." In 1994 we moved to Leeds, and immediately the letters changed to a more threatening tone. We found out that Leeds is swarming with people who have TV but no licence, so, by moving to Leeds we turned ourselves into dangerous criminals. Eventually, the threatened visit from an inspector took place (which we were never threatened with at our first house). He saw that we had no TV, and said that we would not be troubled again for at least 4 years. I have since discovered that I am not obliged to let such an inspector in my house. Recently, I have had a letter that asks if I still have no TV, and warning me (again) that I can expect a visit (maybe) from an inspector. I shall be ready for him.

Re the video fair enough he over reacted but why was the guy videoing him when he was dealing with the person next door. If I went in to a shop a started randomly filming the staff going about their business I'd soon find myself at the receiving end of a mouthful or security

PS. I Didn't have a TV licence, when I bought my last TV, I gave my mates address as he already had a licence. I've never had anything from the TV people.

Just a passing thought - I work in a supermarket and we are supposed to get a name and address from the person buying a TV, however, we are not required to ask them to produce ID eg a driving licence to verify the address.

So... what's the point?

BBC/TVL state there are two conditions which must be met, before they will consider applying for a Search Warrant.

They are:-

there is reason to assume that television receiving equipment at the address is being used to receive television programme services

AND

it is believed that access to the premises will never be gained.

Surely, if it was known these people were evading, they'd have been prosecuted ages ago?
