can anyone help please..our cat's been out all day, thats unusual in itself..when the wife called him in,he eventually came, but not his usual lively self.he went upstairs and hid under the bed.when we tried to get him out,he screeched like he was in pain, but there are no visible signs of injury,no limping,no bleeding..he won't have food and just doesn't want to be touched..any ideas, thanx in advance.
A cat who is hurt will hide - it's their instinctive behaviour to hide from predators. He could have been in a fight and be scared or he may have been hit by a vehicle. There is often no outward sign of injury but if he's acting out of character then you need to get him checked over. A vet can feel if there are any injuries that aren't visible.
I would get him to the vets ASAP as others have said it sounds like he's had an encounter with a car. He could have internal bleeding and needs vet attention now.
I agree with the others, take him to a vet to get him checked out. It may not be anything serious, he may have simply got into a spat with the local Top cat and it feeling a bit scared and unsure of himself.
If he's hiding and not eating, then he probably just wants to die. He's possibly suffering a lot of pain so the kindest thing would be painless euthanasia. Get a vet in.
I am so glad to hear that it's nothing worse than a fight and a bite - certainly not terminal! Cats will hide if they are wounded, they don't know that you don't know that they hurt. All our catz with your boy a furry get well soon x
I think that your cat must be a lover and not a fighter - getting wounds on the bum end usually means that the cat was fleeing for his life when attacked.
I hope that he gets well soon - cat bite wounds can turn really nasty. My lady cat is vicious and has bitten me a few times. I have had to take antibiotics each time. Good job I love her.
