I was chatting to Buenchico last night on a nostalgia thread about the smell of a glue we used to have in the office in the 60s/70s. It smelt of almond essence and was so strong they eventually took it off the market due to glue-sniffing! It was in a plastic tub like coleslaw is sold in (think it was blue with a white lid) and had a little white spatula attached inside the lid. It was a solid white paste you could spread with the spatula to stick articles in books etc. I'm going mad here trying to remember the name ..... does anyone know please?

OMG I remember that too and can't recall the name either, none of those mentioned. I can smell it now!
I thought 'gloy' as well, but thats in a tear shaped plastic bottle and had a slit in the lid to squeeze the glue out.

Yuk! Copydex! used to smell like rotten fish - what DID they make that stuff out of?
Probably rotting fish!
gripfix was the stuff.... remember it well
I was using copydex a few months ago at work and insisted everyone have a good sniff - god it stinks!!! :)
I remember that glue - the white spatula had a hole in it, which popped onto a little plastic thingy inside the lid.

Didn't the glue have a layer of wax over it?

I always felt I wanted to eat the glue.

I can't remember the name either - gripfix doesn't ring any bells.

Thanks for putting me out of my misery folks! I'm sure now it WAS Gripfix!! :)
Stephens' Gripfix - I remember it well.

Yes Hopkirk - Gripfix did have a layer of wax on the top, on a new tub, you had to crack it across to get at the glue, and when it was new the wonderful smell of almondy marzipan hit you .....................
I also hate the awful smell of Copydex - I think they make it like rotting fish to stop glue-sniffing. That is why Gripfix was taken off the market, it smelt too nice!
