Just wondered....... After recent events and recalling when and what I drink, I seem to now get blinding headaches with white wine.

yes, My Sis has other sensitivities but used to really enjoy a glass of champagne. Now even a sip makes her feel terrible, headachy and rough, seriously just a teaspoonful.
Yes. Some red wines make my nose block up. I don`t think its the alcohol either because I don`t get it with all alcoholic drinks. South African wines are allowed to have up to 45 different additives in them and Australian wines can have up to about 75 so there could be so many different things in there, it could be any one of them. One of my colleagues`s boyfriend actually got tested to see what it was he was affected by and it was silica dioxide. I think that`s used to clarify wine. It might be worth trying organic wine.

Interesting, it seems to be just wine, if i drink say a small spirit and diet coke then I am fine, but wine has become a no-no. Think I read somewher that the cheaper wines are full of all sorts of rubbish
Sometimes a glass of wine will exacerbate my asthma. It may be the sulphites and not the wine itself.

I don't mean to sound funny but cheap wines will cause more headaches than a good bottle.
I suppose it's possible, though in my case I'm allergic to a lack of wide.
^^^ wine
I can't have gluten and could not understand why I got symptoms when I ate gluten free food. Then someone told me that some wine producers use wheat to help clear the wine (why??).

Could be this. We don't know what they put in it - look at scandal over Austrian wines several years ago - they put an oil derivative in their wine!
Yes - had to give up drinking after having children - gave me dizzy head almostt as soon as I started to drink anything!

Yes I must admit that the "cheaper" bottles have an even worse effect.
I am happy to collect any unconsumed wine from you Smowball and see if I have the same problems with it.
Smowball - as NoM said it is likely the sulphites in the white wine (they sometimes appear as little white crystals) - (i) do not drink the bottom of the bottle (ii) do not buy cheap white wine (iii) there are some organic white wines out there. e.g. http://www.waitrosewi...ype.aspx?source=61253
all wines have different pesticides and processes, and these may change, so yes, you can!

have you tried organic, in moderation?
oh, by the way, stay clear of the "stickies" (sweet whites) and blushes - go for the dry wines like a Sauv Blanc....
Did you get to the bottom of what happened the other night, smowball?
