Any word of it coming back?   It'll be well-nigh impossible to replace Richard Whitely [and/or Carol] but I miss the programme.

Last i heard it will be back, with a new host and Carol V in the same position
That's about it. I believe they're now trying to find a permanent replacement rather than having guests. Keep an eye on the front page of http://www.ukgameshows.com for any developments.
And what happened to 15 to 1? Quiz hour with William G & Carol and Richard was essential viewing as a student. If I got out of bed in time anyway!
15 to 1 was axed when William G Stewart retired at the end of 2003.

I too miss Countdown.  I did e-mail channel 4 suggesting Tom O'Connor as a possible replacement, but as everyone is saying 'how do you replace Richard?'  I hope they don't have 'guest' presenters like 'Have I got news for you'

I think Martyne Lewis would be a goog comper for Countdown

I'd have thought Giles Brandreth would be ideal...

So after all those years of Richard saying he'd get a nine letter word if it killed him, he did, and it did.

YAY!!! It's back!!!

Yep....it's back!!

Des Lynam was really nervous but hopefully he'll settle into the role. It was nice to end the first show with "in memory of Richard Whitely"
