The usual glut of marrows! Has anyone got any good recipes to use them in? Something nice and simple please. I've googled it but their recipes are too complicated for me.

P.S. Yay - my hundredth question! Think I'll celebrate.

My mother, God rest her soul, used to make marrow cubes in a bolognese type sauce. I used to have the recipe written down but I last saw it before we moved house 5 years ago. Sorry.

That sounds good grasscarp. Marrows haven't got much flavour, except what you put with it. Makes you wonder why we bother to grow them.
This cake is delicious Star. I guess you could freeze them? Or you could make a few and give them away to friends or summer fetes.

Thanks maidup. I've printed that off and will try it tomorrow. Never thought of making a cake with it and a freezable one at that. I have all the ingredients and the recipe seems nice and easy.

Follow-up for maidup. Cake is delicious. Half of it gone already. Thanks.
Fantastic! I love it too and its so easy. A simple and old fashioned style cake.

It certainly makes a change to using marrow as a vegetable.
My father used to make something alcholic with them. I vaguely remember , he cut the marrows in half, chopped up the flesh and added sugar and put back into the marrow halves and left to ferment. Maybe some one else on AB has come across this.
take a big fat marrow
from your garden barrow
chop it up, cubed and stewed
turn it into ethanol lube, better known as booze
Drink a pint ere you go to the Plough and Harrow
and you'll be on the ship's bow on your way to Jarrow.
