i have an old washing machine that i never been able to get working properly...it comes on, lights flash etc and it lets me input the number i want on the digital display...however when i type it in it pauses for a bit, seems to be about to start, but then just stops and the display changes and just flashes what i assume is some sort of error code an wont start...

the main problem is that i dont have a manual so dont know whether i am imputting the numbers properly or pressing the buttons properly etc...

its a servis one

is this a common problem? or does it just mean the machine is broken...or is it worth me trying to get hold of an old manual...?

any ideas what the codes are...?

thanks

"any ideas what the codes are...? "

Just what I was thinking.... what's the error code?
I downloaded a manual for my old machine - just go to the manufacturers website and you should be able to find it.
Good luck!
I would say that is a board down.
if you put here the model and error code, i expect someone will look it up for you
"I would say that is a board down."

How on earth do you get that from the question, there are loads of things that would cause the symptoms listed, a faulty inlet valve for a start.
Could call Bednobs
Also .. an error code probably will not give you a direct answer.
Like " 2645a electronic failure"
: )

ah...spoke too soon...its just shorted the electricity and the plug is quite warm...
i turned the power back on and it stayed on ...

the error message is flashing an F then a 4 - which on the front says to consult the owners handbook

so is this an electrical fault... would it be worth fitting a new plug or something...?

theres isnt a manual on the website
f4 = motor fault apparently
you need awm repair person if you want to keep the machine

cheers bednobs
I've seen worn brushes blow fuses, dirty armature's can also do the same, beyond that it's going to get expensive.
Question Author
whereabouts is the motor? its the bottom isnt it? its a front opening machine so which side would be best to remove to get to it?

i am going to check the brushes before i call someone out
You will have remove the back plate. At the bottom is the motor, it has the belt attached to it that will drive the machine drum.

They should be two carbon brushes that may need replacing.
