Is the Queen being roped in to do work normally carried out by the Foreign Office? Last week it was Ireland and now US/Britain relations.

Does this show that Ministers such as Haigh, Fox and Cameron are not up to the job?

whats else is she doing ? her and her family, ?
I just hope it is saving some money. Usually there are two does, one for Her Maj and the other for the Prime Minister.
As Head of State she visits, and welcomes visting, Heads of States.......
The Ministers are fleeting. The Queen has seen more presidents and primes ministers than most folk have had dinners.

I think she's being reeled out to do 'political stuff'
you demonstrate your ignorance of foreign affairs rov. Anything less than the head of state would have been seen as an insult. Just accept that your Noo Labour buddies are out on their ear, no need to so desperately seek ways to have a go at the tories.
//....... The Queen has seen more presidents and primes ministers than most folk have had dinners.//

Is that a statement of the obvious or what.

Given that Presidents / Prime ministers have a fixed term in power or have to go to the electorate if they want to continue in office ( in a demoracy at least )

Does the Queen have any restriction placed on how long she can remain the Monarch ?
It's a State visit, she's Head of State, she entertains. I was thinking when they showed the State Banquet - she's had a busy couple of weeks for an older lady.
As others have said, protocol dictates that a Head of State must be greeted by (and regarded as the guest of) the Head of State of the host country.

For example, if President Obama was to visit Germany his official host would not be Chancellor Angela Merkel (who is effectively in charge of the country) but President Christian Wulff (who many people, outside of Germany, have never even heard of!)

I agree with rov.

I thought the Queen only posed for stamps and the lazy bitch did not do anything else.

Why couldn't Dave have taken Obama to KFC, he'd have been more at home there, and he wouldn't have been mistaken for a servant.
Sorry gromit but I don't think lazy bitch is a term suitable for any elderly lady
You weaken your argument when you resort to terms like that
I certainly wouldn't call myself a royalist, but I think "lazy bitch" is a very harsh comment for a lady of 85 that has a schedule that most of us probably couldn't keep up with.
Can the AB techies set to work on the 'irony klaxon' as soon as, please..............?

I think it'll save on a lot of unnecessary repetition/explanation.........
"thought the Queen only posed for stamps and the lazy bitch did not do anything else."

Wish you could have seen my jaw drop when I read that comment groms, utterly surprised, appalled and shocked you'd come out with it, and it's totally inappropriate to call an elderly lady that.
Gromit, you old dog ...
A joke?

Now see this is why we need emoticons!!

Have to admit Groms, you got me there

(git!)
You mean there is more to the job of being Head of State of Britain and the Commonwealth of Nations than posing for stamps?

I shan't be applying then.
Why do you find it necessary to insult the queen Gromit? Really no one does bile like you lefties.
