Tax £165 on diesel, £245 on the petrol. Back to square one on car hunt. Why don't sales people listen.
Depends on the mileage you'd do as well as well...
Question Author
Mileage would be 12k a year, not much.
according to the man from volvo a few weeks ago deisel only works out cheaper if you do about 12-15,000 miles so you are right on the borderline with that one too
hi red, are you getting a new car, what colour ? how is nephew ?
Question Author
He's on maintainence now, Anne and doing very well thanks.

New car has been on my agenda for the last year lol. Finally thought we had found a bargain and it isn't what it seems lol. Back to drawing board
great news for him and family.. :)
http://www.thedieselpage.com/mileage.htm has some good points in it. For town driving I'd rather have the gas; for road and trailer use the diesel. I have to plug my block heater in on my truck because it gets so cold here and that might be a consideration for you, too.

Really rowan? I don't understand how that works though lol

Aren't you in the US cowtipper? The cars there are a bit different to uk in this size range, I know my brother in NC runs a 3.2 litre and similar here would be 2 litre. Plus your fuel is a lot cheaper lol
I dunno if I'd call it cheap. It costs me about $130 to fill the pickup for about 500 miles of driving. Are you talking about horsepower to weight ratio?
Question Author
I pay equivalent of $100 for 400 miles in my car. I've found a comparison site that reckons I could break even petrol v diesel in 18000 miles, maybe it would be worth looking at petrol after all. Thanks
Make sure you look at resale value.
I filled up in Costco last week for $3.47 a gallon. Compared to £1.40 a litre, I can assure you that's cheap, Cowtipper.
