i have just had a look and i will be watching it..i havnt eaten any meat since they had a programme on the other week called supermarket secrets..and they had all these chickens with just 42 days of life ..well it wasnt a life they saw no daylight and they just ate and grew..i cooked bbq chicken yesterday and i just watched everyone else eat it..yuk..i only shop at sainsbury and buy grade a chicken but as soon as the freezer emptys we will only be having organic meat..these programmes are good for raising awareness..

sure are. I think sainsburys have a much better record for less salmonella in chickens over tescos and the others. After reading the above report I'm not going to touch the stuff.

Theyre nearly ready to manufacture meat without animals, so I'll wait for that I think.

Luckily I eat cooked chicken. You poor souls without fire must really suffer ;o)
I have gone off chicken since I saw that programme Supermarket Secrets.I am not a veggie but I think farming practices nowadays leave a lot to be desired.What do you do?
The supermarkets hold us to ransom really.I buy most of my meat from the local butcher or local farmers markets .But it makes you wonder ....what exactly are we eating?
Years ago my Dad used to keep chickens .They ran about in in the open and were fed a sort of mash stuff that Mother used to boil up and when they killed for the table absolutely delish.It's consumerism plain and simple.People want cheap food and plenty of it and someone is always out there ready to make a profit.
Yummy. Although I usually go to Borough Market for most of my meat, so I'm a bit more confident that it's 'savoury'. Brilliant place, if you like food and you live in London, by the way.
as i said in the post below about chickens, waitrose meat is superb quality and its reared kindly too.

As OBonio says, it's better if you cook it before you eat it. I realise that there might be a problem with antibiotics but salmonella and other bacteria are killed by proper cooking.
we will all be living on lentils if they keep making these programmes..i watched last night and i did wonder if sometimes when people get mrsa in hospitals its because they allready carry bacteria and it makes them worse..its just a thought..i am glad to hear sainsburys chicken may be okay..my daughter got some chicken from tesco it was buy one get one free and it came from argentina..she said it tasted odd so she threw it away..
Mullein, she should have taken it back to Tesco and complained. The fact that it came from Argentina is irrelevant. I like to support local (Scottish) producers but somehow feel that we have been brainwashed to buy British. Remember, BSE was a British thing.
In reality, I think you'll find that all the major supermarkets buy chicken etc from the same suppliers. To believe that Waitrose is OK but Tesco isn't is falling for the advertising. Buy, (genuine + certified), organic meat. It's kinder, tastier, healthier and worth the few coppers extra. Farmers Markets are usually excellent for real organic produce.
