we're having friends round for a nice long, boozy lunch tomorrow and i'm making delias chicken basque. it will be accompanied by two sorts of tasty bread - sunflower & honey and apricot & orange - along with copious amounts of chilled pinot grigio and leffs beer. puds are fresh fruit salad (just made it), hot chocolate fudge cake & cream, and cheese and biscuits.
anyone looking for an easy but fairly impressive looking meal, give chicken basque a go. it's one of those things you can do in advance, shove in the oven and forget about while you get on with enjoying the wine and chat :)

Hi ethandron......We hope you and your friends enjoyed yesterday's boozy lunchtime.

Guess what myself, Viv and her sister Joyce had for a main meal this evening.....Correct...Chicken Basque washed down with a few litres of red plonk from plastic bottles.(Merlot from Sainsbury's ) We are not white wine drinkers so, whilst Delia's recipe called for white wine, we put in some dry sherry instead and it all turned out to be delicious.

Thanks for your posting which we feel was worthwhile.

viv and ron, only just seen your post :)
glad you enjoyed your chicken basque, had you had it before? i'm sure it would be fine without any booze in it at all, and i always put more peppers and onions in than the recipe calls for.
don't know if you saw another food post i made about delias oven baked mushroom risotto, that too is dead easy and really tasty, we had it last night.

(i'll let you into a secret - my dads name was ron and my mums name was joyce)
