Supermarkets get nearly all their food from identified meat suppliers. All meat in stores is labelled with the country of origin and in this country the big supermarkets identify their origins if asked. TESCO source their meat from farms all over the countyr and use 30 dedicated abattoirs. Average journey time for animals is 2 hours. SAFEWAY buy their meat from three main suppliers and use 12 dedicated abattoirs in the UK ASDA source 99 per cent of their meat from farms that are part of a farming club, dedicated to supplying Adsa SAINSBURY'S did not respond to questions but are known to use large scale meat suppliers SOMERFIELD source 80 per cent of their meat from farms and have also started a meat scheme backed by the NFU
