i'm not on the list either - Christine -always hated it.
I called my daughter Stevie - I loved the name after seeing a documentary on the poet Stevie Smith, when I was very little.
Anyway, I longed for a girl and was lucky enought to have her 8 years ago. I always kept the name secret and never reminded anyone of the name, even when daydreaming with my girlfriends etc.
I figured that the chances of her meeting another girl called stevie were pretty slim, and that in itself was so cool!
When she was three weeks old, (and midwives, neighbours friends and family were getting used to the name - and loving it!), a so-called-friend suggested it to her neighbour, who was having her fourth girl and stuck for a name.
I was gutted. We live in a small town and now there is this other Stevie in the same school year as her.
I never forgave the friend and haven't spoken to her from that day. Is that an over reaction??
BTW my nan was called Nellie too (Helen on birth certificate)
