I see that 1d is an anagram of paint
Yes it is how the technique of the setter in constructing the clues is explained.

I asked because some members like to work out the wordplay for themselves.
I certainly don\'t find it too easy. It\'s Thursday now and can I get 9d (material for building modern plant etc (8,6)? No I can\'t!
