Is Indesit an OK brand? Considering buying their 1400 spin speed washing machine. The price seems good for the spec. The warranty to take it to 5 yrs cover only costs 100 so total bill looks even better. They all seem to cold fill, I have a combi boiler so I suppose that is OK. Any advice?

they are ok but 100 for a 5 year warranty is a bit steep. Hotpoint do a free 5 year one with their machines plus they are made in the UK which is even better. They do a good 1600 spin 7kg load for 300.
Have a Miele - can't go wrong - they are absolutely brilliant. May be a bit dearer but well worth it. I have talked all my friends into having one and we have never looked back.
my brother bought the hotpoint a fortnight ago from apollo and is very pleased with it
I bought a Hotpoint washing machine in August, but I didnt get a 5yr free guarantee. Just the usual one year.
The offer was to phone and register for a free 5yr parts warranty guarantee which I did, but was told that although it covered for parts, I would have to pay a Hotpoint 95 call out charge every time I called them after the first year.
They offered me an extra 2yrs extended warrenty for 99 or the full 5yr warranty for l50. 00.
The washer cost me 299.
indesit are pants in my experience, We now have an expensive one (AEG) which was more money, but is miles better.
bednob's rule of economics: cheaper isn't always better
You are kidding. Indesit and Hotpoint are practically the worst brands available along with Beko and Haier.
The others are right, although a Miele is expensive, it works out cheaper in the long run. AEG is ok, but now part of eleecylux.
gonna go against the general concensus here (again) and say that I had an indesit washer for 5 years (went with house when we split) had no probs, so had another which was great for another four years, until new kitchen this summer when i got washer dryer (just for the heck of it) which is ok, tho dont use dryer much . had indesit dishwasher (went with house too), then had slimline for 4 years, lovely, then new kitchen meant i had room for full size, which is fab and i wouldnt be without it..

In short, i've had 5 indesits and no problems. cheap and cheerful.

Incidentally, even the ones i dont own anymore, i know are still going strong.

would not buy another washer dryer, dont dry like a separate dryer does, but would def buy indesit without hesitation.

Bosch ....not as expensive as Miele but still a good machine for your money . Mine is nine years old and still going strong .
I would never touch a Hotpoint again .Had one before the Bosch.Biggest load of rubbish ever .Went on the blink one day after the guarantee ran out .We have never have taken out these insurance things for appliances because I reckon you end up paying more in the long run and they wanted to charge me fifty quid before the engineer even got over the doorstep when it went pear shaped and spewed water everywhere .
Needless to say the machine went to the dump and we bought the Bosch .
You have to look at the small print very carefully on these extended warranty thingies .
We have a 3 year old Hotpoint Ultima
Super Silent ..It's mega noisy ..will deffo
buy a Meile when this dies and goes to
w/m heaven !!! I had a Meile for years.. mega
old so gave it away and it lasted for another
5 years ..they are the bizz ..also with a 5 year
parts and labour warranty ...
and 10 years on some of them
had a hotpoint and had extended warranty and had 36 call outs in 46 years! it was an annual policy eventually the insurance company offered us the price of a new washing machine to cancel the policy . We bought a meile on the advice from independent shop and 9 years later its still fab. Bought a meile dishwasher last year and thats fab as well. SO.....expensive but worth it.

Enough...........! talk about round & round the houses!!!
Thanx 2 u all.
Suppose we resign ourselves to buy the warranty cos we expect the breakdown........maybe not with a Meile......mmmmm......

So sorry but it was you that asked the question.

For what it is worth, (because it seems obvious that you were going to make up your own mind anyway) I back philliper.d's answer.
A miele is the way to go, if you want a washing machine. Everything else is a tin can that breaks down within a week

46 years can't be right?
