Last night's The Bill

Do to a dodgy recording,I missed out what happened on last night's The Bill. I got to the part where the two cops went to see the old man about his nicked car and he gave them a cash reward,which they declined. Then they had some suspicion about him,making him explain - and that was it. Can anoyne enlighten me?

the man said to the cops that he had a suspicion that the carwash place was dodgy. The male copper said' why didnt you say anything' and he said 'well thats your job to find out!'
thats about it really!
