Hi,

Does anyone know why I get an error on windows media player 10 saying "windows media player could not play the file, one or more of the codecs needed is missing or could not be found"? According to windows, my player is completely up to date, so what can i do about this? I've been to the help section but that is not much help to me.

Many MANY codecs exist for lots of different file formats. Your player may well be upto date but that doesn't have anything to do with codecs.

The longest and most complicated way is to find out what type of file you have, then find out what it is encoded in (eg Xvid / ogg ) and then download / install the relevent codecs.

Or you could just download and install k-lite codec pack. It'll play pretty much anything you come across on the net. Not the preferred method of doing things but infinitely easier and quicker.

and yes it is legal, info and download links here http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm#klcodec
Almost forgot, windows media player is pretty crap. Give BSPlayer a try for video or media player classic.

you'll have to google them for download if you want them, my keyboard is playing up.
