Does anyone know any possible reasons why, when I right click a download link, the 'save target as' option is greyed out?

Any answers will be appreciated!

Usually this happens when the item is protected content..
i.e a photo or graphic that you have to buy rights for in order to use it.

But the links I'm trying to right click don't fall under that category - everything I right click has 'save target as' greyed out
what happens if you left click and save as?
Question Author
There isn't a 'save as' option:-

The only options I get are: open, open in new tab, open in new window, copy shortcut, add to favourites and properties.

Save target as, print target, cut, copy and paste are all greyed out.

Sorry - I misread your question, I thought you said right click. I've tried left clicking the link - a new window opens but it stays blank.
I don't know exactly what it is you want to copy or save, but there's a handy little programme called 'Zapgrab' which basically copies anything on your screen for you to save - like a selective screen print where you can choose the area you want to copy. Google it and download it - I've used it a lot and it's very useful.

I'm trying to download an unsigned artist's song from their website (which they give full permission for!)
Ok, I'm thinking that my wonderful little Zapgrab isn't going to be much help to you then...lol. Sorry! If you paste the web address I'll have a look and see if my computer will let me do it so we can narrow it down to the website or your settings on your computer if that would help?

And thanks for telling me about Zapgrab - I'm sure it'll come in very handy in the future!
No problem at all - glad you're sorted :o)
