...after refusing to sing God Save the Queen for 70 years! What's their problem with Female leaders? Will they still sing the "Red flag"?

the labour leadership thinks there is political gain to be made in appeasing tories by looking more superficially patriotic and that is why they have introduced this... i doubt that they are right personally but i suppose we'll see....
Beggars belief.
Have you ever seen Angela Rayner look so uncomfortable as when being forced to sing God Save the King by photo-op-mad Sir Keir? Brilliant.
Maybe cosying up to the new monarch could be a smart move in light of the fact that he’s already been vocal over the Rwanda policy?

Would an Atheist be justified in not singing God Save the King?
If, as I suspect might well occur, the Tory Party at conference is asked to sing the national anthem it is not unreasonable to suppose that most of those singing will actually mean it. The Labour Party today, trying in a somewhat unpleasant way to capitalise on the queen's death, was a political stunt and I think most people will see through it. Amazing to me at least that any of them could even manage to mouth the words to an anthem most of them have never once before sung.

Interesting point Mozz, I am an Atheist but I sing the NA. I play along with all sorts of religious things, weddings, funerals etc because to me it's a societal thing rather than religious though clearly it is seeded in religion.
I think it's about time they changed the anthem. It's a horrible dirge with stupid words.

Now would be the opportunity, what with the change of monarch.
Labour has never been anti monarchy.
Labour Prime Ministers and the Queen have always got along fine. Unlike Thatcher and Boris.
SKS and the cynical Labour policy machine are just jumping on bandwagon. Being respectful of her majesty and the Royal succession, is in at the moment.

21st century Tory Governments have always been disrespectful and antagonistic to the sovereign. Labour are trying to be different, and sucking up to our looney lefty green King :-)
Did they “refuse” to sing it or just … didn’t sing it?
