want to go home to wales for xmas..lived in netherlands for 21 years,,my british passport expired 7 months ago..i am trying to get a dutch passport but could take up to a year..can i travel to wales with the ferry using an expired passport,,i can identify myself. is this worth chancing..embassy told me that i can take the chance...please advice if possible
On the outward journey you will <probably> be OK - you can prove your citizenship and are returning home. The UK can't refuse you entry (though they can make a fuss about it and delay you for a while while they check you out). However the ferry company might decide not to chance that and refuse you boarding.
But I don't rate your chances of getting back into the Netherlands as very high. It would be an oversight/mistake if you did, not normal.
Why not just renew your British passport? You've plenty of time to do it before Christmas.
i am already busy getting a dutch passport which will cost me 300 euro,s...if i was to also get a british one then that would again cost me 200 euro...way to much money for poor me im afraid...also i would think getting back home would be ok because i have a id card for staying in holland...
If that ID card is an official national id card saying you are a Dutch citizen then you can use it for travel anywhere in the EU - you don't need a passport.
my i.d card is for me to identify myself in holland..its not for travelling..its one you get from the police saying that im a foreigner but allowed to stay indeffinately in this country...
although i did use it last year when boarding a plane,,,but at the time i had a valid passport if needed...
