Rishi Sunak and his wife’s wealth is estimated at £651m, up from £529m last year, according to the Sunday Times rich list. The King is worth an estimated £610m.

Why does he bother with politics?

Because he wants to make a difference? That's the answer I'd give the cynics. And I don't even support him

Why does Christiano Ronaldo keep playing football?

You could have asked a similar question about the King- why does he carry on working at his age with all that wealth.

Because he's waiting for a space from his local Allotment Society.

Unless he or she inherits money, every rich person has gained their wealth by their own ingenuity and hard work.

That doesn't just switch off when they become rich, which is why they continue, either in their original line of endevour, or they switch to something else that interests them.

Mr Sunak has enjoyed a highly lucrative career as an investment banker, but he became interested in politics while he was a student, and this has become his chosen career.

He doesn't do it because it makes money, he clearly has enough of that.

He does it because, as advised, he wants to make a difference.

That sounds like a cynical newsbite reason, but I have no reason to assume it is not true.

Hopkirk - // Why does Christiano Ronaldo keep playing football? //

Because it's what he does.

Like any, and all, millionaire musicians in the world, it defines him as a person.

He started because he loved it, and that love doesn't stop because his extreme talent has given him wealth beyond his wildest dreams.

Football is is life, as long as he can do it.

Money is a byproduct, not the driving force.

Yeah, that's what bothers me- what sort of difference?

//Why does Christiano Ronaldo keep playing football?//

Because he loves the game & is good at it.

//...the King- why does he carry on working at his age with all that wealth.//

He needs to justify his position, which wouldn't last long if he just tended his garden.

I agree Andy

"Yeah, that's what bothers me- what sort of difference?"

He wants to destroy the white race? Is that your concern ?

Unless inherited, wealth is usually accumulated by getting others to work on something profitable to you, probably overcharging for it also, or if it is a skill they only need themselves to provide, again charging the maximum one can get away with, or some by getting lucky with investment choices at the expense of others. The rest of us can merely hope to become comfortable by staying employed as much as possible, along with prudence and planning. Not all are lucky enough to get that far.

I think that's an overly-cynical assessment of wealth creation.

An essential ingredient in the creation of any wealth, be it individual or corporate, is the talent not only to see a gap in a market, but to fill it consistently and successfully.

That talent is what separates the self-made from the rest of us.

And we should not underestiate the levels of drive and determination, together with seriously hard work, that turns such ideas into realities that make money.

He doesn't want to destroy it necessarily, but one of the first things he did when he became British PM was to dash off to India to celebrate with Modhi.

This was followed by 'exiting trade deals' but there was a catch; in return Britain was to give thousands of visas to students & their dependents.

He doesn't want to destroy the white British race, but he's comfortable at increasing the Indian one.

Sorry I find that kind of stuff bizarre.
