A Knighthood On The Horizon?

The king was too busy to meet Prince Harry last week but not for David Beckam whom he invited to Highgrove to learn more about The King’s Foundation, a charity he set up in 1986.  The prince is said to have snubbed his one-time friend David recently but the king and Beckham who have met previously have bonded over their shared hobby of bee-keeping.   A new and prestigious post awaiting Beckham - with possibly a knighthood attached eventually?

I like David Beckham - and even more since he queued for hours with everyone else to pay his respects to the late Queen.  The words 'Do you know who I am?', used by so many in the public eye to gain priority over others,  don't appear to be part of his vocabulary.  Arise Sir David!

I'd like him to become Sir David but not his wife as a Lady. Can't stand her, such a show off.  But she would love it of course.

It would be a deserved honour, I feel.

And the prize in today's lucky bag goes to...................

You do him an injustice, maggiebee.  It's likely that the king has him in his sights as an ambassador for The King's Foundation, added to which he has his own charity - I hooked the following from the internet - //the Victoria and David Beckham Charitable Trust, provides wheelchairs to children in need, and his focus on helping children has led to his appointment as a UNICEF Ambassador. In this role for the international charity, Beckham's focal point is UNICEF's Unite Against AIDS Campaign.//

Not bad on his CV..... wouldn't you say?

And he really gets involved, not like some of the 'in name only' charity celebs.

Naomi, I wasn't having a go at DB, just at the whole system of awarding knighthoods.  Think it's outdated.

Absolute nonsense! , the ability of the government of a country to award an honour to it's citizens for special achievement goes back since at least the Roman times, why is it outdated?

it's outdated because it involves a monarch.

maggiebee/untitled, as much as you dislike/despise/loathe the system we have, others love it.  The opposite of 'outdated' could be said to be 'progressive' but destroying a thousand years of tradition is not my idea of progressive.
