I don't fully know how the Swiss system works but it seems that the driver is registered, not the vehicle. You can see houses with several cars and only one will have a registration plate on; tto drive a different car you just move the registration plate over. Since the registration never changes and the Swiss are not ones to miss saving a Franc or two, you often see brand new cars (and the Swiss like expensive cars) with a really tatty old registration plate.

I'm sure that the OP is so much clearer now, having read all of the above answers!

Not.

ginge - I think you're right. We did everything except andwer his question.

Wow.

Noted.

This was so helpful, Thank you all so much.

just seems odd that I can buy a £250k supercar and lend it to any random person with a license and it'll be insured.

It does. But it will only be insured for Third Party risks, Tora. So anybody daft enough to lend their £250k car to A N Other is being a bit foolish.

Then I would suggest the issue is with your ability to understand what's written. I've just had a look at my car policy and it's written in very simple to understand plain English.

You used to be able to do without third party motor insurance if you deposited £500,000 with the Accountant General of the Senior Courts.  I believe that was abolished not so long ago.  Damn!

No, not so long ago. That facility was removed in November 2019.

I see I've misunderstood. Thanks.

It was only £15,000 when the Act first come into force in 1988, a bargain!

Corbyloon - the £15,000 deposit option somewhat pre-dated the 1988 Act which was essentially a consolidation measure.  (Well, if NJ can be a bit pedantic, why can't I?) :-)

Pedantic? Moi?

Wash your mouth out !!!!  😀 😀
