Not sure which category to put this in. However, whilst watching BBC yesterday morning I noticed the screen flicker for a split second. I wound it back, and the same again. I tried pausing it at the spot, which was very frustrating but after some time I paused it and saw a caption which read:

"UNIVERSE IS UNLICENSED. In order to keep using this product without interruption, please activate a license. Please launch the Maxon App and sign in to your account. You are able to try all our products with a 14 day trial"

This seemed like that thing called subliminal images. Mrs Clarion said I was imagining it until I managed to pause it and take a photo on my phone. How could this happen on the BBC? Any ideas?

Big brother is watching you.
Be afraid, very afraid.

But don't create an account, for your own safety.
What programme was you watching at the time?
Was it anything to do with the Barbie film? A clip or even a mention?
I believed that subliminal advertising was made illegal donkeys years ago, was the BBC in question on TV or I player? does it make any difference
The most likely explanation is that, when the programme was being made, the production team were using a Maxon product to create some CGI type graphics. The message maybe popped up during this production phase and no-one noticed.
Would be good to know what you were watching.

Thanks for the replies folks. The programme I was watching was Critical Incident, between 10 a.m. and 10.45 a.m. I have no knowledge of the techie stuff, but Zachs answer seems most likely to me. I Googled Maxon and found that it was something to do with tv systems. Probably some sort of glitch that allowed the caption to remain in there. Thanks again.
Thanks 10Cs.
I believed that subliminal advertising was made illegal donkeys years ago,

yes you are quite right.shock factoid - a betty boop cartoon was found with a frame, betty skirtless! boop boopie doop!
(yes I realise there are some ABers who cant follow this).

One monty python prog - there was subliminal advertising during the Battle of Maldon 991 AD - Invest in New Maldon, I recall
One humourless viewer complained ( now an AB mod I think, (conclude)) and the team said they would get him prosecuted for unlawfully downloading in order to prove his case!

and a third but I cant remember the details - it involved someone winking
