when i had a silver car in the earlyish 2000s, it seemed to me that the majority of cars were that colour. now i have a white car, it seems to be again, that the majority of cars seem to be white. does car colour popularity wax and wane, or it it simply an unconscious bias on my part?

no, I definitely remember the silver craze. I don't know who decides these things, though.

Pink may be out for a while

My car is blue. I know how old it is but was blue ever the colour of the year?
Red used to be a big no no and probably still is.It was said to encourage road rage for some odd reason In earlier days the colour would fade rapidly in the sun but perhaps paint has evolved since then. I love my Metallic black car but that was said to be smeary after a wash years ago.. I can't recall why my parents didn't enjoy their white Austin 1300 . The one after the Morris 1100 with hydro elastic suspension. My Caribbean blue Nissan Nirvana Ute was really pleasing to the eye and to drive.
Look up the reticular activating system of the brain!
My Panda is white because that was cheaper than the other colours.
> now i have a white car

Hopefully not a BMW ...
has it got black ears though, haras?
jno ,
No
Annoyingly, it's the sober end of the week and I can't think of a smart
riposte :-)
Time was when a white car was dearer to insure. If you want to select your colour of choice now, then the price goes up, depending on which colour you want.
The SMMT says grey has been the most popular colour for a few years. By chance mine is grey, when i bought it five years ago it was the only model the garage had so i took it. Oddly, the official name of the colour is Pepper Dust.
I had a green car and was glad to get rid of it, other drivers didn't seem to see me and pulled out across me or cut me up. It was a very scary car to drive, seemed to blend in to the background especially on sunny days
Have my problem with my red banger, colour hasn't faded at all
The colours do gain or loose popularity.

My missus loves her red cars had a red SLK and now got a red Jag. My black BMW looks good but thats mainly because it is the black shadow edition so grill lights and even the chrome exhaust are blacked.

We had a white GTI Twin Cam in 1990, the closest to grey was the Xr3i, but it was a sort of two tone.

I also once had an orange Capri GT and a yellow Cortina estate!
The only BROWN car I have seen for ages was a Porsche
My Corsa is Tango orange and black. Quite a few orange cars about, I think.
