Uk Population
Anyone know what the population of the UK is today, compared with what it was on 23 June 2016... Thanks in advance... Just asking for a friend.

Of course gullier1 is correct that Brexit was all about migration for most who voted leave.
But we need more migrants not less to have a proper functioning society.
The vast majority of those net 600K+ migrants are Students [paying their way] (about one third of the total), people arriving for work (again, about one third of the total) of which over 60,000 are nurses and over 35,000 care-workers; with people from Ukraine and Hong Kong making up about 25% of the total.

Absolutely correct, N.J.. Well before I left France a rule had been brought into place that incomers (immigrants of which I was one) were not eligible for French Social Security until they had paid 5 years of contributions (this did not affect pensioners as there was a reciprocal arrangement with the UK and bills for their medical treatment were settled by the UK Govt.).
They had worked out that they simply could not sustain an influx of Britons, unless the Brits. paid. This is absolutely fair enough. I knew people who returned to the UK because they couldn't afford their treatment.
Everyone else - everyone not in receipt of a UK old age pension- had to pay into URSSAF in the same way as the French population in order to qualify.... I know, because I did this as well as paying my 'top-up'.
Immigrants here (genuine refugees exempted) must pay their way - or not receive benefits. That so many do not is what is collapsing our services, which others have paid for all their lives and now do not receive the treatment they have paid for.
It's not nice, not easy - sorry. France did it.

Of course you may find it acceptable that the UK should plunder other nations – most of which are far less wealthy than the UK - for their trained medical staff. I’m not particularly keen on that idea.

Firstly on a point of pedantry, one third is not a majority – vast or otherwise. But leaving that aside, the UK is obviously very much “over universitied”. Since Mr Blair’s announced the target of 50% of young people to attend university, all manner of charlatans have taken it on themselves to offer degree course, many of which are not worthy of the name. Now they see the opportunity to earn a quick buck by charging overseas students a premium to take their courses. Evidence has emerged that many of them are running more of an immigration service than an educational establishment.

Because it's been going on for forty years makes it even worse.
There's no other term I can find to describe it. This country is scouring the world for trained medical staff because it is either unable or unwilling to train its own (despite having record numbers of university places). Many of the donor countries are far less well off than the UK but they manage to train medical staff - only to see them up sticks to work elsewhere.
This country has too many graduates in "media studies" and too few in medicine.
Because it's been going on for forty years makes it even worse.

I don’t think it’s “cannot”, Zacs. I think it’s more a case of “would rather not”.
To take nursing and midwifery as an example, in the last year there were 52,000 “new joiners” to the profession. Just over half of these (27,000) were educated in the UK. Although foreign registered nursing staff have been a feature of recruitment for some time, they have never formed such a high proportion of the total. The 25,000 foreign registered joiners recruited in the last year represent about 48% of the total. But just five years ago, in 2018, there were about 25,400 new additions to the nursing register but only 3,500 (13%) were educated abroad.
I believe it is totally wrong for the UK to rely on such a high percentage of foreign educated nurses and doctors. There only has to be a whiff of an idea that those trained in the UK might considering upping sticks for foreign climes to practise their profession, and it is viewed s scandalous. Meanwhile, the government and the NHS seems perfectly as ease with relying on the recruitment of trained staff from abroad.
