I thought it was so women of a certain age could join Answer Bank before men. To enable them to form their own Knit and Natter Club.

Gness 15.29,, I think its up to the ED who posts and who does not post on this site. If you want to take control .Make an offer to ED and see if he will sell out to you.. OK,
// civil service, both men and women above a certain grade had to retire at 60 //

There was a time when women had to resign from their teaching careers once they got married. This ruling was abolished back in the mid 1940s.
It's bit like asking why men would stand up if a woman entered the room and now they don't.....
They do ( I love being commented about and looked at)

The cancer doctor in charge of my case swept in and we stood. ( Me n Rookey). She dispensed words of wisdom. "OK looks good. we will do two more cycles." She swept out and we stood. Dr Adam said "No you cant go yet: we have more to complete"
and I said, Dr Adam, Men stand when a lay-dee leaves the room....
I solved the problem, I retired at the age of 40 (early retirement on health grounds). I got my civil service pension and my lump sum.

☺☺
