Lots of things seem to be grey these days. Grey kitchens, carpets, sofas and chairs and wall emulsion. Can anyone tell me why this colour is so popular?

Over the last three or four years I've updated the wall colours in most of my rooms, and I wanted to use a different colour for each room. I used grey on one bedroom and I think it looks very nice.
I matched it with grey curtains, but kept the carpet which came with the house, a patterned dull/dark gold, which doesn't seem out of place. All my ceilings are white.
i can;t stand the colour, it's generally dull and cold looking. The property programme Homes Under the Hammer, which i have watched, all the homes that are renovated end up with grey interiors, including the kitchen. Not my taste at all.

the exception is my brothers house, they have a mixture of greys in their living room, dark grey with silver bits in the carpet and dove grey walls with pictures to offset the colour. works well.
I like grey, so many hues to choose from.
my hair has strands of grey in it, but hasn't turned fully grey yet i am pleased to say.
