Gas stoves are often used for cooking in the States. But oil is more commonly used for heating. I remember my parents ordering kerosene for the big tank that was in our basement.
I had oil heating in our first UK house.
kerosene, isnt that american for parafin?
As Americans drive on the right side of the road, we must drive on the wrong side...
But our steering wheel is right :-)
Hydrocarbon gas is simply ‘Gas’. Sometimes named such a Propane gas.
Hydrocarbon liquid is called ‘Gasoline’. Sometimes shortened to gas.

So context is your key.
Kerosene is commonly used here for aviation fuel. It is what fuels commercial airlines.
It's a gas, man (not a gasman!)
