RIP Sidney.

A longtime idol of mine.
yes, a wonderful actor. In the Heat of the Night was terrific. He was virtually the only black actor in Hollywood for years, apart from a few (like Dooley Wilson) who played minor roles - musicians or servants. Poitier could carry a film.

I hadn't realised he was a Sir.

Me either jno, a well deserved accolade imo
RIP. A wonderful actor.
Sad news indeed, he was a superb actor. RIP Sidney.
Agree his skills. I used to worry that he was so perfect as to be seen as the 'whiter than white' black man. But his raw anger at racism in 'In the Heat of the Night' cleared that issue up brilliantly.
legend, RIP, I'm sure he would have loved this from OFAH:

Sidney Potter! PMSL!
was he a brit?
I liked him in The Lilies of the Valley - Homer smith
Ay- ay-ay men!
Sad news, but he lived to a good age.
Good actor, good looking, what's not to love.
Funny clip from OFAH.
R.I.P To Sir Sidney Poitier, with love. xx
One of my favourites I recall was, For Love of Ivy.
A magnificent actor, and magnificent man. R. I. P. Sir Sidney.
RIP Sidney

Great films and deserved all his accolades and awards. Very handsome man too.
Yes - R.I.P.. 'To Sir with Love' was great.
Love that Only fools Clip. I first saw him star in 'Deadly Pursuit' action mountain manhunt film with Tom Berenger.

Great actor RIP Sidney Poitier.
He was such a good-looking, charismatic man.

He was born on Cat Island in The Bahamas if I'm not mistaken and I do believe he became the Bahamian Ambassador to Japan in 1960 or thereabouts.

RIP Sidney.
fine actor, and civil rights activist...

RIP Sidney
