The initial reaction seems to be focusing on perceived errors in the papers-serving process.

It's intersting that the lawyers are looking at this as a defence, rather than coming at this from a perspective of innocence which they can prove in court.

Maybe because he isn't - and they can't?

andy-hughes, I suggest the lawyers are exploring every avenue possible, thus adding to an ever increasing fee.
In the States, getting the facts down as to whether there is a bona fide case and that due process has been followed is crucial - this comes before the meat of the case and a huge number of cases never make it through as the judge dismisses them - or sometimes in lesser cases offers a resolution process - such as anger management or whatever without it going on the record.

On reflection, you are probably right - get the ideally simple stuff tried out first, then move on to the increadingly tricky stuff if that doesn't work.
It was never explained what a young girl was allegedly doing unaccompanied and mixing with much older people.
