Crikey, there’s some selective editing going on here - and some very selective thinking. Did you all miss the bit where she headed her article ‘'Why the way we teach kids table manners is actually kind of racist' , and where she spoke about ‘dripping with the control and shame of colonisation’ and ‘an echo of European colonial powers looking to tame the wildness out of the people they controlled….and ‘European table manners were imposed on conquered people in an attempt to ''civilise'' them.’

I agree with Spicerack, Caran. You are right. Specsavers ought to be doing a roaring trade!

Having been brought up that it was only acceptable to use ones fingers when fingernails or damp cloths were provided ( great grandmother was head of the household and she was in service ideas above her station I guess) my family were horrified when I picked up things like chicken legs, and slices of cake. Even cake needed a fork according to grandma. She would refer to such 'bad manners' as behaving like savages so I kind of get the point . However all children should be taught the acceptable and polite way to eat different cuisines including the use of chopsticks, cutlery, and fingers ( one hand only in certain cultures). Saves so much social discomfort.

It never fails to amaze me how disingenuous some Answerbankers are. If a bunch of us ABers went out for a curry and I started scooping up rice with my hands, dipping my naan bread into everyone's curry most of you would be thinking 'pig'
