People of a certain age will recall the original 1990s series and its romance and marriage of Mariette, played by Catherine Zeta Jones, and Charlie the tax collector played by Philip Franks. In this remake, Charlie will be played by black actor Tok Stephens. How sizeable would the black population and how common mixed race marriages have been in Kent in the 1950s?

Yes, she did, and yes, they did, but it proves black people were here, in the UK, in the 1930s.
i didn't say they weren't, merely again pointing out the prejudices for them right through to today.
There is no reason on earth why there should be any racism in the series. The series is based on books by HE Bates and contained no racism, so neither should the TV series. The fact that a black actor is playing one of the arts is absolutely irrelevant.
i have not read the books, so can't say what they contained.
I bet Sqad liked Catherine Zeta Jones
NO, almost all remakes are worse, usually much worse.
Just as long as Keeley ruddy Hawes isn't in it
It's a joke. Just leave things alone. Are they going to have a disabled person and a lesbian and gay man in it too?
