In The Words Of Victor Meldrew , I Don't Believe It!

After being so excited earlier that I had a date for my jab, my GP has just phoned to say I can't have it! It seems that all this week, it will be the Pfizer vaccine , and because she wants me to have the Astrazeneca one, I have to wait until they get it. It could be next week, or the week after, it depends on which one gets delivered. I'm absolutely gutted now.

AstraZeneca, which developed its shot with Oxford University, told the EU on Friday it could not meet agreed supply targets up to the end of March, with an EU official involved in the talks telling Reuters that meant a 60 per cent cut to 31 million doses.
UK government ministers have also suggested supplies of the AstraZeneca jab to Britain were also behind track, the Telegraph reported at the weekend.

My Mater had a very strong reaction to the Oxford one - extreme fatigue which led to not being interested in folk around her and non-eating/drinking that the Home put her on an 'end of life path'....My sister went in nine days ago and broke the cycle - I was going to go in today but we've decided to hold back on it for when it's needed - she was, apparently, joking and singing this morning - and they are going to step her down from the 'path' but let the quack know about her reaction. In other Group homes, there have been no reaction from the inmates like hers - but a number of staff have reported this extreme tiredness.

The thing I remember from my schooldays jabs was when one arose which needed a test a week or some time beforehand, and if the (ring of small dots) mark it made disappeared (or didn't, can't remember which) then you didn't need the jab as you had natural immunity.
We all ended up praying we wouldn't need it, but most did. I think it was the BCG jab, for polio which was still common when I was young (a girl in the next street to us had to wear callipers on her legs as a result of polio).

237SJ I wasn't sure how it works, but I'm thinking that perhaps the surgery get a delivery of the vaccine and don't know which one it is until it's opened and then they will get another delivery and if that is the Astrazeneca one, I'll get an appointment straight away. I do know they didn't get any delivery at all a few weeks ago. All sounds a bit hit and miss really.
Canary - I didn`t have the TB jab (1970s) because my sister had a bad arm afterwards so my Mum decided not to have me done. Years later (about 1990) I went to Australia and you used to fill in a health questionaire on the flight. One of the questions was "Are you currently suffering from TB" and the man sitting next to me ticked the Yes box. I mentioned it at work when I was having a typhoid jab and ended up being sent to a chest hospital where I had the test with the dots.
