\\The UK has been insisting it will not give the EU ambassador to the UK, João Vale de Almeida, and his 25-strong mission the privileges and immunities afforded to diplomats under the Vienna Convention.//

\\The Foreign Office said: “The EU, its Delegation and staff will receive the privileges and immunities necessary to enable them to carry out their work in the UK effectively.”//

\\The Foreign Office says it would set a precedent by treating an international body in the same way as a nation state. Other international organisations would then apply, it says, leading to a proliferation of other such bodies seeking diplomatic status//

\\It is understood that the Foreign Office is affording the EU the same level of diplomatic protection as other international organisations and this is considered sufficient for the staff. The protection includes embassy property and documents being inviolable, and some staff being exempt from taxes. No staff can be prosecuted for acts committed in the course of their diplomatic duties.//

the EU is Political and economic union.

It might be an EU issue, in which case, deal with the EU representative or it might be an issue with only one EU country, in which case, deal with that country's ambassador.
oh I think it is Mandarins (lundy) v hautes functionnaires ( paree)

EU is not a gondree and so doesnt have sovereign rights. A sort of point you would expect on AB

however the consitutents have sovereign rights and they are deprived of them
Hope the E/U stops Farages E/U pension in retaliation.
jim: //Sometimes we'll want to speak to Germany alone, sometimes we'll want to speak to France alone, and sometimes we'll want to speak to the EU.//

If the UK wants to speak to the EU it can go to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen (heaven help us) or her extensive offices, as it did in the denouement of the Brexit negotiations.
Yes, or it can speak to an EU Ambassador in the first instance.

This question seems to have morphed from a question of how much protection should be given to EU diplomats, to whether we should have them in the country at all. To the latter, of course we should. There's no dispute over that, not even from the Government, and the suggestion of having no EU Ambassadors when we have ongoing diplomatic relations with the EU (as in, eg, the recent Treaty we just signed with them...) is risible.
It's almost like some people don't even bother reading the question ...

> Should A Eu Ambassador Get Full Diplomatic Immunity?

We have an EU ambassador. The only question is whether they get full diplomatic immunity, like their counterparts do at 142 countries around the world, including the USA (even under Trump), or whether we don't extend them that privilege for some reason.
Over 23,000 people have full DI in the UK, this includes the heads of UN agencies and a number of foreign nationals attached to international organisations.

This tiff has dragged on for a year and is rather daft.
Ellipsis //or whether we don't extend them that privilege for some reason.//

The "reason" is, giving them full diplomatic status would be to accept (& enhance) the EU's reputation as a nation - which it isn't.
As I stated at 12:04, I can see the logic of the UK's position but [not being an expert in international diplomacy] I have to ask why we'd do something different to the USA, Canada, Australia etc etc, 142 other countries.
"The "reason" is, giving them full diplomatic status would be to accept (& enhance) the EU's reputation as a nation - which it isn't."

Yes up with nationalism down with internationalism right..... Best suited to flag bonking fascists and petty dullards.
