2020 Cannot Get Any Worse...

Not normally one for sackcloth and ashes but having already lost one NHS colleague to Covid, tonight another friend and Theatre colleague has died in a hit and run incident after finishing work, I’d only spoken to him 3 minutes previously as I began my shift.
The driver has already been found and arrested therefore I’ll not comment further pending the investigation(hence I’ll not give a name), but given his injuries it’s safe to say they weren’t sticking to the speed limit.
RIP mate.

When I was teaching, many years ago, one of my students and 3 others were all killed when their car smashed into a wall. I always think of it when I go past the place. There have been similar stories in the press on a fairly regular basis. It’s to do with being young I’m afraid.
Report was later updated, perhaps the initial report was too soon.
Awfully sad.

The current rumour mill(very strong given that we have colleagues whose siblings work elsewhere in the Emergency Services) is that the person responsible is a 32 year old drunk driver with a revoked licence.
He has left a widow with a 3 year old daughter whilst 4 months pregnant(she works as a pathologist) to grieve for her husband, our colleague.
I was never a vindictive nor spiteful person initially, however life and my work has taught me that tragedy is never fair.
To that end, I can honestly say that I wish the driver suffers a slow but aggressive throat cancer, because that is he only thing that will negate his actions and assuage our thirst for vengeance.
C’est la vie, I and all my colleagues feel the same, we are what we are.
We see death and suffering regularly, usually from people who do not deserve it.
This one most certainly does.
