What is the name of the thing that the doctor clips onto your finger called? I think one of the things it measures is oxygen but don't know what the other bit is for. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, just had that done at the GP's earlier as I've had a cold/cough for almost 4 weeks so she said I have a temperature, she listened to my chest and put one of these things on my finger and I saw it said 99 (oxygen levels) which was fine, but didn't see what the top figure was and I don't know what that measures anyway but then she said I need antibiotics and I've to go back next week. So is the other one your pulse rate and does that have a ball park figure?

The typical average resting pulse rate for an adult is usually given as being around 80 beats per minute. (That's the compression rate that a first-aider giving CPR would aim at). More detail here:
