DC stands for direct current. It means the overall flow of 'lectric is only one way; i.e. not continually going back and forth.

Not understanding the last part. DC power supplies get plugged into the mains, but aside from that DC and AC don't normally get connected.
I guess you need to know whether it comes with a DC power supply or whether you have to go buy an appropriate one to use it.

thanks OG - I am thinking of buying a little portable DVD for lady concerned to watch a DVD rather than messing with her TV.

This is a description

////The DVD player comes with so many different functions for playback and having a USB port allows not just DVDs to be used. E books are also available for use.

We like the blank screen mode.

The product has everything you need for connectivity. DC power and in car. Also the old fashioned three colour connectors via a jack plug.///

By the above I am assuming she can plug into her mains.
"The product has everything you need for connectivity. DC power and in car"

Sounds to me as if it has a DC power supply/lead included. The DVD player plugs into the power supply, the power supply plugs into the mains.

I assume it's a UK (230v) product.
Yes should be ok for UK mains.
//Question: Can this also run on mains?
Answer: Yes

Yes it comes with a mains adapter which you can use to either charge the DVD player up to watch on the go, or to keep it charging whilst you are watching it. //

Amazon.com User Recommendation

Presuming it's that one or similar.

thanks guys. I talked with the guy on Amazon and I understand more fully.

It is like my Karcher Window Cleaner and perhaps mobile phone.

There is a battery inside the dvd player and you just charge that up via mains. Thanks again
