You are kidding? Wouldn't you be entitled to housing benefit if you claimed JSA?
have you spoken to anyone - CAB maybe they can advise you - i'm sure like ummm says if you are claiming JSA you can get HB
Make an appointment to speak to someone at Job Centre Plus, a lot of this info is knee jerk and automated at first.

Get some advice love.
Crikey Rowan, so sorry :( As Ummm says JSA will entitle you to HB, you should be able to get Bereavement Support allowance as well as long as you haven't got more than £16k in the bank, if you have then that reduces etc.
Oh dear, that's all you need on top of all the pain and grief you've suffered already.

I wouldn't just settle for that though - and it certainly won't hurt to dig deeper into what you may be entitled to.

Thinking of you xx
Why do you lose his pension?? Does it not go to next of kin?

all he had was his state pension and attendance allowance. My company pension gives me more than the minimum threshold for means tested benefits. I have been number crunching since I found out and it is just doable if I shop smart like I used to. I will phone the McMillan benefits team tomorrow and send the council a budget statement. I will get the state bereavement allowance for 18 months. It was a shock though. Bu66er Iceland this one's going to heron and the markets in town. At least there will be no more sweets and booze until I am where I want to be health wise.
I will be in the same boat as some of my friends.

I'm sure you have this but just in case it helps to know where to start, heres the link. I hope McMillan can offer you support with this, you really dont need the anxiety of financial worries.

Thanks maydup, I did it yesterday. I would have left with a much bigger pension but I put a higher value on the time we would be together and having the money to build lots of memories
Have you checked to see if you can get Pension Guarantee credit ? It adds quite a bit to basic state pension even with some private pension added. They have a helpline who are very good and helpful. The worst that can happen is they say you are not entitled to anything. It costs nothing to find out.If you are entitled to even £1 a week pension guarantee credit , you also automatically get 100% housing and council tax benefit , free travel to all doctors or hospital appointments and 100% free NHS dental treatment. It is the most underclaimed of all benefits, over 33% of those who are entitled to it do not claim. They will NOT just give you it, you have to actually make a claim
I think this is what you should be claiming, rowanwitch
