Surely a civil case of trespass would take longer than the driver coming back for their car?
Oh just had a thought.... probably not right but,

Possession is 9/10 of the law. Surely leaving a car on your driveway they are gifting it to you.

Anyway wouldn’t it be relatively easy to jack it up and either take the tyres off or onto something to move it out of the way?

I would do exactly the same. I would ignore the car, for over a year and then contact my local councillor. Local councillors are renowned for their efficiency and alertness.
