She played the part of the naive, simple-minded girl to perfection.

She was, indeed, an excellent actress. It was almost impossible to watch her portrayal of Alice and realise that you were actually looking at a highly-intelligent woman. The script alone created only a 'cardboard cut-out' comic figure; it was her perfect timing that turned that figure into a wholly-believable character.

My favourite moment was when she was reading from an 18th century bible. In the typography of those days the letter 's', unless at the end of a word, looked very much like an elongated 'f'. At the end of the programme she read the lesson and hit on the word 'succour'. She managed to say 'f' before the credits rolled and the theme tune played.
How sad, she was an absolute delight to watch :(
Being pure, sweet and innocent, I obviously don't understand the joke there ;-)

Don't be so disingenuous, Chico. You know perfectly well what the joke is.
Oh yes, of course you are, Chris .........not !
Don't think he'll recognise the long word, Jack !
A delight to watch her character in Vicar of Dibley.

A true gem.

To be able to portray the naive dipsy girl as well as she did must have taken quite a bit of skill.

That's three of the stalwarts of the show now gone: Emma, Liz Smith and Roger Lloyd-Pack.
I'd guess if there's a sequel it wont be worth watching with three gone.
Old age catches up with all of us (if we're lucky enough to last that long, that is).

Gary Waldhorn (David Horton) is now 74.
Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott) is 86.
John Bluthal (Frank Pickle) will be 89 next month.
But only 53 and of 'natural causes'

That doesn't sound right.
