how do you weight curtains so they hang well?

You can buy small lead weights encased in a white tube. It's sold by the metre in haberdashery shops and comes in various sizes depending on how heavy you need (i.e. how heavy the curtain material is).


You thread this through the hem and then catch stitch it so that it doesn't move about (if the curtains are already made up, you may need to open the end of the hem to do this).

Seems odd but this does work , sew 2 pence pieces into the hem. Works a treat

Buying things specifically for weighting down curtains can be expensive - I bought medium weight galvanised chain to just under the width of the curtain - put it in the bottom hem - works a treat.
