Dave and I are hosting a Faith Supper on Valentine's Day to celebrate some great news about one of the guests.
I've been looking for ideas for themed food etc.. Colour, shapes.

I wanted a Pagan element too until I found out that was the day Pagans smacked women with animal hides.

I will give that a miss I think. Off out now. Will appreciate any ideas when I return.

Smacked with leather, gness? Surely, a good night? :-)

Helen, how did your dinner party go? Excuse me Gness.
I think Pixie and RH have a different kind of evening in mind. Dirty girls.

How about twice baked cheese souffles in a parmesan basket (round) or you could do a parmesan twist (spiral). (These are dead simple and quite impressive and can be made a day or two before). You could get any shape ramekins you like and then make the parmesan baskets to suit.

Or beetroot pasta stuffed with goats cheese walnuts and basil with a walnut pesto. (Again, you can do any shape you like). Plus this would be quite colourful. This could also be a main course if you upped the quantities.

I like RH's fondant idea - you could get heart shaped dishes.

How many are coming? The souffles cook well in batches and are just reheated on a tray.

Wonderfully and exhaustive!
I am beginning to wonder if I’m too old for this!
Haggis bonbons with irn bru dip
Venison casserole cooked in whiskey and port served with broccoli, mange tout and roast potatoes
Cranachan cheesecake
Cheese and biscuits
Tablet and coffee
No wonder you had a tablet at the end. You must have needed an Ibuprofen after all that work.
I have to be honest Sunday I did very little after cleaning up, my legs were quite sore

Thank you for your ideas....mostly! I'll save the bowl for red jelly, Helen! :-)

Not sure how many yet, BM. Only heard the really good news this afternoon. There will be something going on in the village too so it may just be the group of us who have helped the friend in any way we could.

Glad it went well, Helen. I used to entertain so much but these days Faith Suppers are more to my liking. The fun of the company but less cooking.
Gness, will you actually be doing the cooking?
pagan ladies' day is a couple of months later, gness

No, Tilly. I haven't worked out the cooker yet. Every guest will contribute something to match the theme and Dave will do any cooking required by "us".
When we've done it before we always had standbys in case our Faith in folk bringing enough failed. Hasn't done yet.
Slap me with a mink! It's an animal skin!

Thanks, Rowan...love all the red salads. Don't have square sausage here but I could batter a few big fat ordinary ones.

I will certainly give that some thought, Jno. Is it better before the guests arrive or after they have left?

Neighbour's dogs caught two mink the other week, Rowan...will see what we can do.
