Until then I had never uttered a swear word. My Dad always said people swear because they don't have the vocabulary to express themselves. Although Mic now does not swear as much as in the past, I now use swearing as a 'let off steam'. Do you agree with my Dad, or do you also use swear words to express your self.

i am trying to stop, lest my daughters first words are "effing effers"
I think you may be right about the 'letting off steam' I used to work in a very busy place where everyone was under a lot of pressure and everyone swore including myself.

But I never swore at home and still dont.
Not heard parents use it, or hub, I loathe it. Sorry.
Use them often, as do plenty of my colleagues, male and female.
This icon of modern society sums it up perfectly and he undoubtedly has one of the broadest vocabularies in the UK.

Living alone as I now do, then yes on occasions I do let off steam with some curses. Would not do so in public though.
Frequently yes, I work in a factory and have done most of my working life !.

I have never sworn in public. Most of my swearing is under my breath.
I very, very rarely swore until I became a chef. As the only female in a kitchen with 15-20 men, I heard some very questionable words! lol I swear now when I'm angry or annoyed but never (even at the age of 35) in front of my parents. I don't think they would bother much, but it's just not something I would do.

Hope Mic is keeping ok Jeza xx
I'm ashamed to say I do at home, not while I'm out or in company. My parents didn't swear so I'm not sure where I picked it up. But I find I let off steam by swearing at the washer etc.

He's still swearing vodka, usually at me.
:( Big hugs to you Jeza x
I have sworn at computers (with good reason) but never at people. My parents didn't swear in front of others and neither do I.

Mic gets frustrated at what he can't do. I do understand. I think.
I was brought up not to swear, then I went to boarding school and everyone seemed to swear. I tried not to do it at home. Now I swear occasionally or though I try not too.
I first heard my mum use the f word when I was 15 and she stubbed her toe. I found it funny.
I remember the one and only time that I ever swore in front of my mom aged 20, I had been doing something to my car in the garage and managed to cut one of my fingers so I went into the house and showed mom the cut, she then got out the dreaded first aid box and proceeded to apply some of that stuff called 'New Skin' it was something you could use instead of a plaster, and boy did that stuff sting !, so as she applied the 'New Skin' I shouted out Fluffing Hell that stings and within one milli second of me saying that and doing a war dance at the same time she managed to connect one almighty slap on my right ear, gawd I can feel it stinging even now.
You fuc***g bet I do

i can appreciate your father's point of view about using profanity to fill in the gaps in their vocabulary, i encounter it all the time at work - especially from the drivers
unfortunately, i do not like hearing it..but i have no choice

personally, i have never used profanity under any circumstances, and i never will - irrespective of the provocation
